Kia wheeled out the third generation of their Kia Sportage compactSUV earlier today. The all-new SUV is bigger in all dimensions exceptheight and ground clearance when compared to the previous model.
The2011 Kia Sportage is now on display at the Geneva Motor Show. When itgoes on sale later this year, customers in some markets will likely beable to choose from four different engine options. Horsepower ratingson the two petrol and two diesel units range from 115 PS (85 kW / 133hp) to 163 PS (120 kW / 161 hp), with emissions as low as 138 grams perkilometer. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be availablein certain markets, as will two-wheel and four-wheel drive versions.
"Withthe all-new Sportage, we have created a five-seat compact SUV withmaximized customer appeal." said Kia Motors president Hyoung-Keun Lee "Despite the recent and ongoing global economic difficulties, Kia’smarket research indicates that demand for C-segment SUVs in Europe willgrow steadily over the next five years as customers down-size theirvehicles and new models focus attention on the segment."
Kiadecided to make their SUV bigger in every direction, measuring 90mmlonger, 15mm wider, and 60mm taller. This makes the vehicle smaller,wider, and shorter than the current Honda CRV. In a press release, Kiaclaims their car provides "a commanding driving position, heightenedsense of security and powerful road presence."
