French Keeper Hugo Lloris To Decide Between Rivals Arsenal & Tottenham
Straight choice for Lyon star.
Lyon and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris faces a straight choice between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal after both clubs agreed a £12.5 million fee with the Ligue 1 giants.
Lloris, 25, has been the French number one since 2008 and also captains Les Bleus.
The custodian has made over 150 league appearances for Lyon after making his Ligue 1 debut as a teenager with Nice.
Lloris now faces a tough choice between bitter north London rivals Arsenal and Spurs who finished just a point apart in 3rd and 4th place respectively in last season’s Premier League.
Spurs, who recently appointed Portuguese tactician Andre Villas-Boas as manager, are in the market for a new ‘keeper, with Brad Friedel, 41, and Carlo Cudicini, 38, both older than their new coach and in the twilight of their careers.
Heurelho Gomes is rated by Spurs goalkeeping coach Tony Parkes but Villas-Boas is thought to be keen to offload the erratic Brazilian.
Arsenal, meanwhile, can offer Lloris a French speaking manager in the form of Arsene Wenger and Champions League football, factors that could sway the Lyon man.
However, current number one at the Emirates, Wojciech Szczesny, is highly-rated by Wenger and Lloris will face a battle to replace the Pole in the short to medium term if he chooses the Gunners.
Spurs have identified a Swansea ‘keeper Michel Vorm as an alternative if Lloris opts for their neighbours and enemies.
