Djourou closes in on Arsenal exit as Walcott talks continue
Johan Djourou looks set to leave Arsenal during the January transfer window after it was revealed Hannover 96 are interested in the Swiss defender.
Djourou has struggled to get a look-in at the Emirates Stadium this season, making only two appearances for Arsene Wenger’s men, and has also been linked with a move to Italian giants Napoli.
The 25-year-old, who is earning around £50,000-a-week, has not yet played a minute of Premier League action this campaign and is considered fourth choice central defender behind Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
Bundesliga side Hannover are chasing Europa League qualification this season and their manager Jörg Schmadtke believes Djourou can help bolster their defensive options alongside the signing of Serbian centre back Gojko Kacar.
Meanwhile, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is determined to ship out fringe players Marouane Chamakh and Andrey Arshavin next month in an attempt to boost the club’s coffers even further during the January window.
Negotiations remain ongoing between Arsenal officials and Theo Walcott’s agent Colin Gordon, with the Englishman out of contract at the end of the season and yet to put pen to paper on a five-year extension.
