The Arsenal midfielder is only 21 but he has emerged as a key man for Roy Hodgson's national side and demonstrated that with a man-of-the-match display in a 2-1 win over Brazil at Wembley on Wednesday.
At the time Sagna was playing for France against Germany in Paris - making his own welcome return to the international scene - but word of Wilshere's influence soon reached him.
"I heard he played well," Sagna told Arsenal Player. "I texted him and he replied to me and was quite happy. It’s good for him and I’m happy because he totally deserves it.
"He can deal with pressure. The way he wants to play [is with] power. He doesn’t think too much about his future, how well he will do, and how people will think about him."
Wilshere, like Sagna, has had to endure a long spell on the sidelines before returning to first-team action this season. According to the France international, Wilshere's fine form is down to graft as much as craft.
"He’s a hard worker and is always first at the training ground," said Sagna.
"At only 21 years old, that’s not common. Usually young players leave quite early and they come in quite late. Jack is working really hard, on his body first, because he realised he needed to care about himself, and on the pitch as well." |
