Arsène Wenger says Mesut Ozil still needs time to adapt to English football - despite an impressive start to his Arsenal career.
The Germany international took just 11 minutes to register his first Premier League assist when he set up Olivier Giroud's opener at Sunderland last weekend.
Ozil's stats were impressive - including a 90 per cent pass completion rate and three chances created - and Wenger is happy with how his record signing has settled. But he knows there are challenges ahead.
"He has integrated well, and been well accepted," said Wenger.
"I think he is not at the top physically yet. Overall we are very pleased to have him with us, but he will demand a bit of time to adjust to the vigorous body challenges he will face here in the Premier League.
"Once he has done that, he will be even stronger."
Wenger has no doubts that Ozil will thrive in the pressure of the Premier League.
"He is 24, he has over 50 caps for Germany, and when you play for Germany, you are under a lot of pressure. He won the championship with Real Madrid, and that is a club where there is a lot of pressure." |
