Basically depend on how you look at it. If for the photo quality, I think D90 better. However, if you wish to have a device that can help to take movie besides photo taking, then 550D.

I think it's hard to say which is better... I'm using d90 and I love it, but when u look at the spec and some sample pics on the web, 550d is better. Nikon should have something (update of d90) to compete with canon soon, sometime this year i guess
