I am not  a defender of Gaddafi or his deeds. However, why did the world leaders suddenly have the resolve to get rid of him once for all?  He's been in power and was being labelled as a terrorist for such a long time, and yet he survived and thrived in such seemingly hostile international arena. World leaders are willing to turn a blind eye when no self-interests were involved. If there are, they would find justification for war, by demonizing the target or revealing information they withhold. I cannot share the jubilant spirit now in Libya and the world, bloody civil wars are on the heels of his death. The countries supporting the rebels would inevitably be vying for control of the emerging government, if there is one soon. It is very dangerous to treat this incident as a successful rebellion against a tyrant when we are unaware of the turbulence beneath the surface. I shared some of your views on current events. Ever since the WWII, leaders are wary of the importance of propaganda which they manipulate to gain support and justification for war and insurrection. Like the US, they would never repeat the media fiasco during the Vietnam War and I believe there is a system in place to demonize the target and galvanize public support. We see clearly this kind of strategy in the recent two wars on Afghanistan and Iraq. As for the media's role as a complicit for war, I think Chomsky has a good elaboration in the documentary "Manufacturing Consent". For the Israel and Palestinian problem, I think Israel has no incentive to engage in the peace talk as according to Israel government, any settlement built would be considered as a permanent piece of her territory and would not be on the negotiation table. Given that next year is election year, Obama would not offend the Jewish voters by doing anything drastic, we must bear in mind they wield big influence in financial and intellectual circles.
