As one of a number of new design proposals to the IZOD IndyCar series,DeltaWing unveiled a radical prototype at the Chicago Auto Show.
Thenew chassis an extreme departure from previous open-wheel designs,featuring a rocket-like fuselage, a super-skinny front track, a verywide rear end, and no wings on the front or rear.
The newconcept, which could potentially be circling the Brickyard by 2012,features almost entirely enclosed wheels, which drastically reducesdrag and also increases safety. DeltaWing chief technology officer BenBowlby has said the car's lower aerodynamic drag and lighter weightwould offer enhanced performance on the racetrack while only using halfthe engine power of its predecessors, thus increasing fuel efficiency.
