On paper, the games look easy.
On the court, it can be a different story.
TheLakers won their ninth consecutive game with a double-digit victoryTuesday night over the seemingly overmatched Portland Trail Blazers atStaples Center. It was not smooth or simple or easy in any way, however.
Itwas a grind, a game that might have gone the other way if not for theLakers' ability to maintain their concentration. Instead of bowing tothe Trail Blazers' superior intensity in the first half, the Lakersregrouped and regained their rhythm after halftime.
Althoughthey are in the midst of a five-game stretch in which they face onlynon-playoff teams, the Lakers say they are just as focused as if theywere playing their top rivals in the Western Conference.
TheLakers (40-17) play host to the Miami Heat (10-44) tonight beforecompleting their stretch of games against clubs who are out of theplayoff picture with a rematch against the Trail Blazers on Friday atPortland.
"We'rehaving a lot of fun," Gasol said. "I think we're enjoying (winning),but at the same time we're focused and alert. We want to continuewinning and you know it's not going to come easy. They're just notgoing to give it up that easily."
TheLakers are still smarting from a Feb. 6 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, their only defeat in 13 games this month. They seemed to be in controlfor much of the game, but faltered in the fourth quarter and lost onenight after beating the New Jersey Nets.
"Itdidn't sit right with us," Kobe Bryant said of the Atlanta loss. "Sohopefully we won't know that feeling again for a while. We just go fromgame to game and try to win every single one of them so we don't havethat bitter taste of defeat in our mouths."
Bryant said he believes the Lakers have the best bench in the NBA.
Coach Phil Jackson wouldn't go quite that far.
"We'd like to think it was," he said.
“我们当然希望是这样,”他说。
Jackson then praised San Antonio's bench and Manu Ginobili, in particular.
Healso spoke about the contributions of Dallas' Jerry Stackhouse andJason Terry. And he also talked up Phoenix's backups, including LeandroBarbosa and Boris Diaw.
"Mostcoaches will tell you that if you're going to have a really good teamyou've got to have starters who are willing to come off the bench andrejuvenate your team," Jackson said. "I'm not saying we have anadvantage there, but I hope we do."
Jacksonsaid he expects Trevor Ariza to return to the practice court in April. He declined to say whether he believed Ariza could be a key contributoroff the bench. Ariza has been sidelined for more than a month by afractured right foot.
"Ican't guess on that," Jackson said. "We're really hopeful he will (beproductive when he returns). With Trevor, his injury is such that whenhe does come back it probably will be just a matter of days beforecoming back full bore. When he comes back, and we anticipate it shouldbe in April, he should be able to get back in rhythm."
“但我也不能确定,”杰克逊说,“我们当然希望他回来后更有杀伤力。考虑到阿里扎的伤病,等他复出并恢复到100%的状态的确需要些时日.但是,我们的确希望他能在四月回归,希望他能找到比赛的节奏。”作者: william仔 時間: 2008-2-29 02:04 AM
