He looks like a miniature old man or the baby from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.  However, a few seconds later, the reality of it begins to sink in; this is really a video of a two-year old toddler smoking cigarrettes. Smoking is an enormous problem in Indonesia.  A third of the country uses tobacco and, only last year, a law was passed officially recognizing that smoking is addictive. Ardi will smoke only one brand and his habit costs his parents £3.78 a day in Musi Banyuasin, in Indonesia's South Sumatra province.
But in spite of this, his fishmonger father Mohammed, 30, said: 'He looks pretty healthy to me. I don't see the problem.'
Ardi's youth is the extreme of a disturbing trend. Data from the Central Statistics Agency showed 25 per cent of Indonesian children aged three to 15 have tried cigarettes, with 3.2 per cent of those active smokers.6 {3 k' K6 ]0 F/ ^7 q8 h- E/ H6 N
The percentage of five to nine year olds lighting up increased from 0.4 per cent in 2001 to 2.8 per cent in 2004, the agency reported.
