Liverpool sacked manager Roy Hodgson and replaced him with former player and manager Kenny Dalglish until the end of the season, after a dismal run of form left the Premier League club just four points above the relegation zone.
Hodgson, who joined England's most successful club from Fulham in July last year, had been under intense pressure from fans in recent weeks after defeats to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers.
