Curling is played on ice, and the two opposing teams take turns pushing19.1-kilogram (42-pound) stones toward a series of concentric rings orcircles. The object is to get the stones as close to the centre of therings as possible.

Shoes

  • Curlers wear specialty shoes, including one shoe with a strip ofteflon on its sole to create a smooth surface (known as a slider).Right-handed curlers wear the slider on their left foot, whileleft-handers wear it on their right foot.
  • The other shoe has a thin layer of rubber on its sole to provide traction on the ice.

  • Curling broom is used to sweep the ice surface in front of thethrown rock in order to clear debris and help the rock maintain maximumspeed.
  • Curlers also use brooms to help identify the exact target for their teammate who is about to throw the rock.
  • High-end brooms are primarily made of carbon fibre, allowing for faster sweeping.

  • Circular in shape and weighs between 38 and 44 pounds with a maximum allowable circumference of 36 inches.
  • Handle of the rock is bolted to the stone.
  • When the rock is thrown with the right hand, clockwise rotationis called an "in-turn", while counter-clockwise rotation is referred toas an "out-turn".
  • The opposite applies when the rock is thrown by a left-handed curler.
