Valencia opens talks to extend Villa's contract

Valencia are in talks with David Villa over an improved contract, sporting vice president Fernando Gomez has revealed.
Spain striker Villa, along with his club and international team-mate David Silva, has attracted interest from a host of teams, with Premier League side Tottenham reported to be lining up a bid for the Euro 2008 winner.
Silva's agent, Julio Llorente, met with Gomez and Valencia president Vicente Soriano on Tuesday night to begin discussions over a new deal for the 22-year-old.
And now Gomez has revealed the club is currently doing the same with Villa.
'Villa's agent has been here and we held the same discussions with him as we had on Tuesday with Silva,' Gomez told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
'We want the player to stay here and tomorrow we're going to continue the discussions.'
He added: 'Both players are very close to staying.'
Villa's agent Jose Luis Tamargo added he and his client had been happy with the initial talks, and insisted that Villa was more than happy to remain with Los Che.
'It's been a satisfactory first meeting and we've got everyone seeing our way of thinking,' Tamargo told Spanish newspaper AS.
'All I can say is that we are all in the same boat, Villa and Valencia.
'David Villa is a Valencia player, he has a contract, and he feels an emotional attachment to the club.
'He's happy at Valencia and always has been, and I hope he continues to be for many more years.'
It is believed Villa has been offered a 500,000 euro increase to his current three million euro deal.
