Ford has announced that the 2011 Mustang V6 has achieved an officialEPA fuel economy rating of 31 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in thecity. It thus becomes the first 300hp (224kW) production car in thehistory of this testing system to achieve over 30mpg.
"The Mustang engineering team aimed high and, through hard work,achieved fuel economy numbers that elevate Mustang into a class byitself," said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global ProductDevelopment. "At no other time in Mustang's history - for that matter,in automotive history - have we been able to talk about 305 horsepowerand 31 miles per gallon. The Mustang truly is a no-compromises sportscar."
Powered by a lightweight all-aluminium 3.7-litre V6 engine, thehistory-maker has a 6-speed automatic transmission and will go on salethis coming spring. Its manual-transmission sibling achieved similarlyhigh figures of 29 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city. |
