[討論] Let's talk about our Midfield in detail

I have to admit with the departure of Ronaldo it has made the deficiencies in our midfield glaringly obvious.

Let's have a look. Scholes & Giggs. Legends who are entering their twilight years with no obvious replacements.

Carrick. Sometimes I think he could go on to take Scholes place but he doesn't play those games back to back.

His passing is wonderful. When he does get forward he scores. Sometimes though he just doesn't bring it so to speak.

I would like to see Carrick get forward more. Maybe play in the hole. Who knows. Develop into an attacking mid?

Mostly though I want consistency from him. I think he's got the best shot of becoming something big.

Hargreaves when he regains fitness is maybe our one world class midfielder who's still young, relatively.

Park is tremendous and has the energy of 3 men. I think we all know, however, he's not a starter.

Park doesn't have the technical ability, we need flair wingers. Nani I might brush over in this thread.

There is already a thread about him and plenty has been said about him so I won't clog up this thread about him.

Anderson. I'm not quite sure what to make of him. I've heard lot of contradicting things said about him.

Some have said that at Porto he used to play high up and did so successfully. I know at Porto he had more flair.

Other says that he's always played deeper like he does here. He certainly has plenty of grit and energy.

He covers ground well & gets stuck in. I would like to see him start passing the ball around.

He has an eye for a pass when he needs to. I'd like to see him use that more often. Oh and one more thing.

A goal from open play. That might be asking a bit much, though.

I'm not sure why he doesn't play higher up. Some say Fergie tells him to play deep others say its confidence.

PeeJay mentioned to me that Anderson might be lying deep because of a lack on confidence in front of goal.

So so far I've called for both Carrick & Anderson to try playing higher up. I understand the problems this provides.

This is why I feel we need Hargreaves to return. He is a specialist tough tackling midfielder & he is what we need.

I honestly feel with the right cover our other midfielder could reallyventure forward & develop the attacking aspects of their game.

So what do we need? Well not to be cynical but Hargreaves is a while away from a return.

Do we need to look for defensive cover? I mean a tough as nails specialist player not Carrick or Ando.

Someone who could give Carrick & Ando the freedom to range and really explore their games if SAF lets them.

Last but not least there's Fletcher who has come along in leaps and bounds. A stand out improver.

I find it hard to place him. He used to be a squad player. There was a time when he played 2nd fiddle.

I think that's they key about him. He hard working, tenacious & lately has developed greatly.

However the question we have to ask is if we had better options would he still start? I think no.

Most obviously we need wingers. Park will do for now & if we do get Valencia we will have options.

So do we buy a world class midfielder & build around them? Or do we buy good players & no stand outs?

So throw in your suggestions & comments about our midfield. Until Hargreaves returns we are bereft.

Do we buy defensive cover or wait for Hargo? Should we buy a world class winger or central midfielder?

I think we need at least one or two top class midfield signings to build around. Valencia would be good.

I still maintain Van De Vaart or Sneijder would be a good signing if we can get them cheap, Madrid having a clear out & all.

I'd welcome suggestions for a top class right winger. I like Bosko Jankovic, not saying go for him, I just like him.

I doubt Ribery will go anywhere & if Valencia sell VIlla I think they'll fight tooth & nail to keep Silva.

So throw names in the hat & we'll see if we can come up with some good players.
