Around 500 people live on Atafu Atoll, mostly in a village that can be seen on the corner in the left of the image above. Atafu is just five
miles wide and is the smallest of three atolls in the Tokelau Islands, a New Zealand territory.+ H) O1 D: K; z2 F: p  i: S

Atafu is made up of coral reefs that surrounded the flanks of a volcano that has since become inactive and submerged. Like many tropical 公仔箱論壇: z6 l) p- p2 c4 R0 ]

island at around 4,300 feet.

Onekotan is in Russia’s Kuril Islands between Japan and the tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The islands were formed by volcanic activity
5 L8 W1 z4 v5 f/ Z. h# qcaused by the subduction of the Pacific Plate beneath the Eurasian Plate. Subduction can also generate some of the largest earthquakes & Z1 \/ E  O3 F( e
