I think it is because the pictures were taken at night in dark environment. For achieving the intended clarity and coverage, pictures taken in this situation will usually take longer period of light exposure. The 'rain light' you observed might be the traces resulting from glaring stars as earth moves. Any other explanation and observation from pals are welcome!!
