In the 1950's, Mao's Great Leap Forward Plan failed big time and millions of people in China was starving.  During that period of time, cannibalism was a common practice.  It's an either do or die situation.  Rumor had it that they made sausage "Lap Cheung" out of the dead bodies of those who were starved to death.  Some of these lap cheung were sold in the markets and some exported to HK.  Bones and fingernails were found in those lap cheung.

Ask any old Chinese (at least 60 year old today) who had lived in China in the 1950's and they could attest to it.
