Curling is played on ice, and the two opposing teams take turns pushing19.1-kilogram (42-pound) stones toward a series of concentric rings orcircles. The other shoe has a thin layer of rubber on its sole to provide traction on the ice.
Curling broom is used to sweep the ice surface in front of thethrown rock in order to clear debris and help the rock maintain maximumspeed.
Curlers also use brooms to help identify the exact target for their teammate who is about to throw the rock.
High-end brooms are primarily made of carbon fibre, allowing for faster sweeping.

The opposite applies when the rock is thrown by a left-handed curler.
