創作背景
編劇的靈感源於2017年仁川國小女童分屍案，犯案者為年僅17歲的金姓少女。
「希望被告人能夠了解我家的孩子是多麼珍貴的存在。」2017年，在分屍案的審訊中，被害兒童的母親曾說過這樣的話，然而這樣的願望卻永遠無法實現。
當金被問到現在讓她感到最痛苦的事情是什麼時，她沒有絲毫的抱歉感或負罪感，只是說了：「天氣那麼好，我卻無法去看櫻花最讓我感到痛苦。」讓金覺得痛苦的事情，只不過是不能去看櫻花而已。雖然金的回答沖擊和惹怒了全韓國的國民，但她會這樣回答也是理所當然的。
金從一出生開始就跟普通人有著不一樣的基因，缺少了鏡像神經元(mirror neuron)，令她無法感知他人的痛苦，也完全沒有負罪感、同情心、惻隱之心和後悔的感情。我們不要期待金會懺悔或者贖罪。正因如此，金到死也不會了解，對孩子父母而言，那孩子是多麼珍貴的存在，遑論會對自己犯下的罪行懺悔。
被害者的家人們一輩子生活在痛苦之中，但加害者的基因卻讓他們這輩子連1%的負罪感都沒有，反可舒心的過著日子，大家對此都是忍無可忍的。編劇在怒火中燒下企劃了這部電視劇。即使被害兒童母親的願望在現實中難以實現，編劇想讓精神病態殺人犯擁有一樣的感情，會為自己所犯下的事情而感到心理痛苦，去反省和贖罪，也許這樣的感情才是神給予殺人魔最重的刑罰和救贖吧？
