《法外搜查》是一部犯罪動作搜查劇，講述5個來自不同職業的人聚在一起，合作偵破懸案的故事。車太鉉飾演充滿鬥志、一旦接案就一定會調查到底的重案組刑警，李善彬飾演滿懷熱情、但苦於收視率不振的調查報導組PD，其他角色還有從側寫師轉職為生活型的偵探、隱藏過去經營著酒吧的社長、原國科搜查院精英出身的葬禮指導師…等人。
