Sky Sports understands Arsenal have agreed a fee with Caen for hot-shot M'Baye Niang, but face competition from Manchester City for his signature.
Highly-rated forward Niang enjoyed a trial at Arsenal
last week and he is thought to have impressed during his time at London Colney.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
has held a long-term interest in the 17-year-old and he has firmed up his interest with a bid. Caen
are resigned to losing Niang following their relegation from Ligue 1 and a host of clubs have expressed an interest in signing the teenager.
Arsenal are hoping to steal a march on their Premier League rivals by agreeing a deal with Caen for the player.
However, City have now joined the chase and they are believed to have asked Caen if they can take him to the Etihad Stadium on trial.
If City agree a deal with Caen, Niang will have a decision on what club he wants to join as he looks set to seal a move to England in the near future.
