The $22,000 California Ashera Cat

The Californian bio-tech company that breeds this hybrid claims the cat is more like a dog, as you can walk it on a leash, than it is a cat although it does possess the many play like qualities that cats are known to have.

The hybrid or designer Ashera Cat is billed as the world's "largest, rarest and most exotic" domestic cat. The large pointed ears and eye-catching coat come from two wild bloodlines, the African serval and Asian leopard cat, crossed with an undisclosed domestic breed.

It stands 4ft tall on its hind legs, lives for 25 years and weighs up to 30lb to 40lb.

There are other kinds of designer cats such as the Toyger which is a cross between a Bengal tiger and a domestic cat, and there is also the Chausie, a mix of Jungle and domestic cats, but whatever your choice it will probably cost you an arm and a leg.
