During its construction, the Eiffel Tower surpassed the Washington Monument to assume the title of the tallest man-made structure in the world; the Eiffel Tower held the title for 41 years, until the Chrysler Building in New York City was built in 1930. Because of the addition of the antenna atop the Eiffel Tower in 1957, it is now taller than the Chrysler Building by 17 feet (5.2 m). Not including broadcast antennas, it is the second-tallest structure in France, after the Millau Viaduct. / Q% k- E+ \: U" A* S3 x9 `3 O2 ^$ FThe tower has three levels for visitors. The court of Versailles was the centre of political power in France from 1682, when Louis XIV moved from Paris, until the royal family was forced to return to the capital in October 1789 after the beginning of theFrench Revolution. Versailles is therefore famous not only as a building, but as a symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Régime.
