Real Betis 0-1 Recreativo Huelva
Recreativo Huelva made an impressive start to their Primera Liga campaign with a 1-0 away win over local rivals Real Betis.MarcoRuben scored the only goal of the game in the 36th minute but Betiswill be wondering how they failed to find the target, with Jesus Capihitting a post in the 53rd minute in one of his side's numerous chances.
Juanito headed over in stoppage time, summing up Betis' woeful luck in front of goal.
TheSevilla side have invested heavily over the summer, spending around20million euros on new players, but they fired blanks at the EstadioManuel Ruiz de Lopera.
Recreativo finished 16th last season and will want to avoid becoming mixed up in a relegation scrap again this campaign.
Threepoints here is an excellent start but the result could easily have beenreversed had Betis not squandered chance after chance.
CoachManolo Zambrano will not have been happy with the gaps in defence,particularly as it is the attack he is hoping to reinforce before thetransfer window closes following the departure of Florent SinamaPongolle to Atletico Madrid and with Javi Guerrero out for a monththrough injury.
Recre's Tornavaca Aitor had the first chance inthe second minute with a long-range shot that was comfortably saved byBetis keeper Espinosa Casto and thereafter the teams were evenlymatched.
Mariano Pavone could have given Betis the lead but shotwide from inside the area, and at the other end Perez Adrian Colungafired a free-kick over the bar from 25 yards.
Pavone was in thethick of the action again when he headed just wide from Marko Babic'sfree-kick from the left, and in the 22nd minute Capi launched astinging shot straight into the arms of Asier Riesgo from the rightedge of the area.
Aitor threatened when he forced Casto to savehis strike from the right of the box and Betis failed to heed thewarning as Ruben scored three minutes later.
The midfieldercollected Aitor's pass from the left and slotted a low shot into thebottom-left corner from the edge of the six-yard box.
Amoedo IagoBouzon could have doubled the visitors' lead just after half-time butshot wide, and the miss could have proved costly had Betis been lessprofligate.
Capi fired on to the right post from just inside thebox in the 53rd minute and Pavone should have scored with a close-rangeshot but saw it blocked by Riesgo.
The ever-present Capi forcedRiesgo to tip his curling shot around a post in the 65th minute and thekeeper was in action again five minutes later to thwart Pavone.
FernandezPoli should have extended Recre's lead in the dying minutes but headedstraight at Casto, and in the second minute of stoppage time Juanitoheaded over the bar as Betis' search for an equaliser proved fruitless. |
