Old Trafford side keen on young Icelandic international.
Man United are readying a bid for Icelandic international Gylfi Sigurdsson as Sir Alex Ferguson looks to hijack Liverpool’s advances for the Hoffenheim youngster.
Having impressed during a loan spell at Swansea City last term it had appeared that the 22 year old would be making his temporary move to the Liberty Stadium a permanent one after the Welsh side agreed terms with Sigurdsson’s Bundesliga employers but the goal-scoring midfielder backed out of the deal in order to consider other options following Brendan Rodgers decision to take over at Anfield. Some sources have stated that Liverpool are just one of a number of Premier League sides keen on Sigurdsson and Man United are looking to nab the attacking midfielder this summer.
Ferguson is looking to re-shuffle his Old Trafford squad having seen Man United lose their Premier League title to local rivals Man City and crash out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. The Scot is said to be looking to strengthen his squad with the addition of young talent and to that end has already signed Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell from Borussia Dortmund and Crewe Alexandra respectively.
The Man United manager is said to be considering offloading a number of other players from his playing staff that he feels he can afford to sell. The likes of Anderson, Ji-Sung Park, Dimitar Berbatov and Bebe are among those he could look to make available for possible departures.
Should Sigurdsson be presented with the chance to join Man United he may well elect to pass on the offer to reunite with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool.
